In 2010 I spent a few days in Îles de la Madeleine shooting some video around the area where a proposed deep water oil drilling project which is named after the beach area in the North of the small Islands called Old Harry.

Ask And You Shall Receive Seems To Sum Up My Day Yesterday

Yesterday was weird, not just for the fact for the first time in the past three years not attending the UNFCCC negotiations which are taking place in Cancun, Mexico but mostly for getting into two multi-Tweet arguments. First with an contributor to the @NationalPost articles which say hey we don’t need action on climate change and the second was with an employee of a green washing company based in Calgary who keeps on trying to defend @OilGasCanada when Canadian Oil industry compare tar sands to house hold food products like peanut butter and the toxic bi-product sludge to yogurt.

These Twitter exchanges happen every now and them but to correct someone who contributes to a national newspaper was certainly the icing on the cake when you telling them to do a little bit more research before they start spreading lies to discredit things. (In this case it was @FossilOfTheDay and who runs it) I continued on with the day thinking that was some good victories for the day.

Since I rarely expect any other sort of engagement through Twitter aside from keeping up with what friends are doing, chatting back and forth with many of the people who I have meet around the world that I don’t get to talk to on a daily basis in person (aside the above mentioned fight even now and then). Yesterday I sent a Tweet to @MargaretAtwood who is a Canadian poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist, and environmental activist (and probably one of Canada most amazing authors) not expecting her to share it due to her busy schedule but she did share it, and share it to her large audience on Twitter of 104,643 Followers.

With the excitement of such a well known Canadian actually listening to what I had said on Twitter this morning I though ‘Hey Why Not’ and send off a message to the Prime Minister of Canada, yes right to @PMHarper himself.  While I always am chatting back and forth with @PMOHarper out of the many messages I have sent to the real Prime Minister I have yet to get one reply. I am starting to think that he actually is the fake.

While I don’t expect to have Mr. Harper to Re-Tweet my message to him (although others already have), I do think that if enough other Canadian started to voice their concerns over how badly our international image is being TARnished with the current governments actions to protect our domestic Tar Sands industry over the safe future of the human population that at some point the PM would have get out of bed for once and start to actually do the needed work that is at hand.

“COP16 is the last legs that the UNFCC has and in the upcoming two weeks if there is no concrete results it will be exposed that the [UNFCCC] process is just as problematic as any other top down approach like the G8 or G20. You cannot re-brand your capitalist models when there is never going to be a correct price reflective to a safe & healthy of the environment we live in”

“So to all of those attending COp16 in Cancun I urge you to take the next two weeks to work alongside those impacted by climate change and to not make decisions without having the proper input which will result in false solutions.”

The steam might have been let out with the end result from COP15 in Copenhagen but there certainly is not a loss of hope that as intelligent species that there can be resolution to the climate crisis, but the UNFCCC is certainly under many watchful eyes (in Mexico & internationally) to make sure that yet another year is not wasted without taking strong action collectively to ensure that there is a safe climate to allow for our existence on this planet. With other global bodies like the G20 being unable to meet their promises of ending fossil fuel subsidies and mounting pressure from the grassroots level the next two weeks could create the spark which is needed to mobilize larger bases of people to step forward and be the leadership which has been lacking from those who should have the political will to switch our economies from the destructive fossil fuels into the more small scale, community controlled solutions which will be the opportunities that take our current economic situation and turn it on its head.

With Canada’s usual role of protecting the largest embarrassment to Canadians in the form of the Tar Sands as this current governments top priority, the leadership will have to come from Canadians who stand for action for climate justice and not those being barriers to help keep afloat an industry which disregards human rights violations as something that goes with the price of business while holding their hands out for taxpayers dollars and a country who at one point was a world leader turning its back on the international community just to become an energy producing economy. The testing grounds for marginal oil and squeezing every last drop from any location be it in sands in some of the most ecologically important areas of the world or to the deep underwater deposits which cannot be safely controlled and greatly impact marine life and ecosystems which we still have not fully understood shows that we are fighting an large up hill battle but the power to make the change still is held in the everyday decisions we make in our lives.

Be it refusing to bank with institutions which finance environmental destruction, using pedal/walking power over combustion powered transportation, educating ourselves better to being closer allies with those who are leading the grassroots resistance because until we get past the concept that this issue will be resolved with fancy ad campaigns or strategic planning sessions and start to listen to those who are directly impacted which have been excluded from the discussions on how to resolve the issues at hand and the lessons which have been passed down over time we will just keep spinning in circles wondering why we are not making any progress.

In Canada One of the key ways to prevent the rapid expansion of the tar sands is stopping Enbridge’s proposed pipeline to the Pacific, where dirty tar sands oil could then be sent by tankers to China and the rest of the world. Take Action Tell Enbridge CEO Pat Daniel to cancel the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline project. Support a legislative ban on oil tankers off the BC coast — which would put a huge damper on the Gateway pipeline.

In the U.S. If built, Transcanada’s Keystone XL pipeline would strengthen America’s addiction on dirty tar sands oil. It’s proposed to stretch from Alberta to the Gulf Coast, taking private land, and crossing sensitive areas along the way. Take Action Tell President Obama to reject a pipeline for the world’s dirtiest oil. Sign Bold Nebraska’s petition urging Secretary of State Clinton to protect the Ogalla aquifer, America’s breadbasket, and landowners by rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline.

Мысль, которая четко сформировалась при возврашении из отпуска в России. Точнее в Москве. К Москве, по моему последнему опыту, больше не применимо выражение "отпуск в Москве". Можно сказать поездка в Москву, подразумевая только прилет и потом перемещение в Подмосковье, на дачу, или в другой регион, как раз в настоящий отпуск.
Безусловно, в Москву можно и нужно в командировку, по делу. Ибо там куется железо, чтобы потом его обменять по плавающему курсу и припеваючи отдыхать, где заблагорассудтся, не обращая внимания на топонимы.

А в Москве мне с каждым разом тяжелей. Физическая и эмоциональная усталость отягощает недолгие недели отпуска. Без остановки тусить получается дня два, не больше, на третий уже хочется забиться в угол, не включая никаких гаджетов и, самое главное, не видя мелькания вагонов, машин, лиц угрюмых людей- то ли нездоровых, то ли уставших- уставших намного больше меня, туристки..

Москва, на мой взгляд, остается прекрасным контейнером то, что называется гламуром, а также масштабных проектов строительства, эклектичных и богатых заведений питания, пуленепробиваемых офисов и неотзывчивой милиции. И очень большого социального расслоения.

Как выразился Ф, на выходе из метро у нас можно видеть НАРОД. И он живет совсем не такой жизнью, как многие мои ровесники, считающие звезды Michelin на дверях ресторанов. Ни та, ни другая Москва- не моя. Мою Москву я очень искала в этот раз и я даже краем глаза увидела ее, ненадолго, буквально в первом переулке от Маяковки в сторону Патриков, там, где мы гуляли с РМ по местам Шехтеля...

Совсем мало такой Москвы. Слишком много джипов загораживают вид на то, что еще можно называть Москвой

если правда, что в докладе или рассказе лучше всего запоминается начало и конец, тогда от поезки в Россию у меня 2 сильных воспоминания.
первое, т.е последнее по хронологии. в DVO у туалета, недалеко от шикарного дьюти-фри вижу огромную рекламу какого-то препарата от геморроя. описывать не буду, но лишь скажу, что ассоциация с картинкой у меня получилась примерно такая: "житуха в России -геморрой, а если вы улетите, то будет вам счастье!" Кто видел- тот знает.

А вот второе неудобное воспоминание. Сразу после прилета, я решила зайти в туалет ДО паспортного контроля, а вдруг очереди, подумала я, лучше не рисковать. Когда вышла, уже никого с нашего рейса не вижу, прохожу к залу контроля, а там человек 200, одинакового роста, со смуглой кожей, практически одинаково одетые, рубашки и темные брюки, без ручной клади. в нос ударяет терпкий запах плоти и каких-то жирных полотенец. стоят они все толпой к 7 окошкам, на меня косятся недобрым взглядом, я тут как белая овечка, в прямом смысле, в белой маечке и коротких красных штанишках, настоящий артек. и все они- мужчины. только в углу, где проверяют диппаспорта вижу одну женщину с ребенком на груди и вторым где-то у юбки. жена тамошнего министра???

через пару минут разглядывания толпы стоя на мысочках, я начала сомневаться, что наша "группа товарищей" могла так бесследно просочиться... теперь на меня оглядывается добрая половина толпящихся.. меня начинает обуревать беспокойство такого странного свойства: первый раз это случилось у нас со Светкой в Париже, в каком-то гетто, куда мы забрели по ошибке и где мы были единственными белыми в обувном магазине. отметаю идею попробовать пробраться через очередь ближе к окошкам, чтобы спросить, мне тоже стоят в ЭТОЙ очереди, или есть другие варианты.

на мое счастье, за спиной в другом конце зала я увидела сотрудницу аэоропорта, к которой ринулась с надеждой быть избавленной от ощущения западни. тут себя чувствуешь не иначе как жертвой, стадом, когда хищники- это строгие люди в зеленых костюмах: работники миграционной службы и таможни. дама, не спрашивая меня, с какого я рейса, сразу сообщила, что мне по эскалатору наверх, там для нас и Еревана паспортный контроль.

я была, безусловно, рада вернуться в цивилизованный мир, но на некоторое время меня просто вырубило из эфира. то, что я увидела чуть раньше, совсем не было больше похоже на обычную регистрацию или на котроль после прилета. голодных (во всех смыслах) и немытых жителей ближнего зарубежья запирают в душном зале без кондиционера, всех вместе, как зверей в клетке, а потом отправляют откуда приехали.

наверно, так выглядит депортация. наверно, в Москве есть проблемы с иностранной рабочей силой.

если бы то, где мы живем, было бы гостиницей, и я бы работала пиарщиком конкурирующей сети отелей, я бы обозначила так основной недостаток нашего здания.
уже 2 сентября начинаешь задумываться о зимней пижаме. и под утро рыскаешь в темноте в шкафу в поисках пледа, чтобы укрыться от утренней свежести, которая проникает скврозь стены и через окна.
если серьезно, то решили в этом году через месяцок переставить опять немножко мебель в спальне. кровать будет теперь изголовьем к другой стене, смежной с соседями, чтобы больше никогда не было ледяной подушки.
как нас сюда угораздило? сколько мы еще тут продержимся?

и называть вещи своими именами, то современный самовар- электрический- есть не что иное как огромный кипятильник в красивой емкости. например, расписанный под хохлому эмалью по меди.
пишу я это потому, что Ф подарили в Москве очень дорогой (и как бы красивый) самовар, который мы приперли сюда, только потому что дарящие очень бы обиделись, если бы мы не взяли его в ручную кладь.
а на самом деле, днем раньше мы купили себе эл.чайник vitek, за адекватные 700руб против 3500 у навороченного tefal, и очень довольны им. быстро, удобно и проще простого.

моя думалка, как и в случаях с крутыми телефонами, вопрошает, а так нужны все эти навороты в таких простых домашних приборах????
мне- точно не нужны: для фотосъемки у меня фотокамера, а не холодильник)))
